From the national perspective, Lawrence Yun, National Association of Realtors Chief Economist, has recently stated that all the conditions for strong price growth are at play including increasing home sales, record low interest rates, and the lowest inventory of unsold homes in 12 years. Homes sales in the South were up 5.6% in fourth quarter 2012 and 13% from a year earlier. Many experts see home prices rising in the near future as inflation increases over the next several years.

Locally, here on Hilton Head Island, 2012 sales were up roughly 20% over the prior year. Sales are starting out strong in 2013 as well. Prices appear to be stabilized. Inventories are coming down and in certain property types or locations, there are shortages of options.
