Hilton Head, Bluffton high schools again named to 'Most Challenging' national list
For the third year in a row, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island
high schools have been named to a national list of schools with
academically challenging instructional programs.
Hilton Head High was ranked ninth and Bluffton High was ranked 12th among South Carolina schools on The Washington Post's 2013 list of America's Most Challenging High Schools.
The ranking is based on a formula that divides the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year by the number of seniors who graduated.
Nationally, both schools were ranked among the top 4 percent of the nation's nearly 30,000 high schools.
In a press release, Hilton Head High principal Amanda O'Nan said that the school's International Baccalaureate program contributed to the recognition.
"With 187 11th- and 12th-graders enrolled in IB classes, we've seen students pushing themselves to levels they haven't experienced before," O'Nan said in the release. "That momentum has spin-off academic benefits for the entire school community."
Bluffton High Principal Mark Dievendorf credited a schoolwide effort for its ranking. The school offers 15 Advanced Placement courses, and students' average scores on the exams exceed state, national and international rankings, according to the release.
"We have 400 students taking college-level course work and the subsequent Advanced Placement examinations, and that speaks not only to the level of rigor our students are attempting, but also to the post-secondary preparation we offer in prerequisite courses," Dievendorf said.

2013 Newsletter - 1st Quarter
Greetings Sea Pines Friends and Neighbors,
As we go to press with this edition of our newsletter, Sea Pines is busy preparing to host the 2013 RBC Heritage Classic golf tournament, and we are saying goodbye to the many visitors who enjoyed Sea Pines for their Easter and spring break vacations. The azaleas are in full bloom, and the days are sunny and balmy; a beautiful springtime in Sea Pines!
We live in Sea Pines, and so we know first-hand how many Realtor mailings you see, and we are also well aware of the volume of newspaper, magazine and internet Realtor messages you receive. Some agents tout their experience, some recount their recent sales, and some insist that they are “number one” at this or that. Well, you are a Sea Pines owner, and we thought it important for you to know that, according to statistics published by the Multiple Listing Service of Hilton Head Island for the year end of each of the last four years, the following is true as it relates to Sea Pines:
In 2009, Clark, Cramer & Frank closed 29 Sea Pines property transactions, more than any other agent or team.
In 2010, Clark, Cramer & Frank closed 32 Sea Pines property transactions, more than any other agent or team.
In 2011, Clark, Cramer & Frank closed 36 Sea Pines property transactions, more than any other agent or team.
In 2012, Clark, Cramer & Frank closed 66 Sea Pines property transactions, more than any other agent or team.
So far in 2013, Clark, Cramer & Frank closed 13 Sea Pines property transactions, with another 13 under contract, more than any other agent or team.
These transactions included homes, lots and villas, and prices ranging from $199,000 villas to $3,999,000 oceanfront homes. For the past four years, during one of the toughest real estate sales environments on record, Clark, Cramer, & Frank have developed, and continue to develop, marketing plans and buyer identification programs that enable us to consistently close more Sea Pines transactions than any of our competitors, period.
The five partners of Clark, Cramer & Frank have over 100 years of business and management experience, over 70 years of real estate experience, backgrounds that range from academia to retailing to banking to law, a combined IQ of over 800, and a great sense of humor!
Some of our competitors have been heard to say “well of course they generate those big numbers, there are five of them”. Well that is precisely the point; all of the resources and capabilities of ALL of the partners are available to you, the listing client, during the listing and closing process. From marketing, to pricing, to showing, to negotiating and inspection resolution assistance, we can act as a team in an environment where two or three “heads” are often better than one. It really is like getting five Realtors for the price of one.
We’ll end with a simple request: If you are contemplating listing your property for sale, as you consider other Realtors, please interview Clark, Cramer & Frank before you make a final decision. We think you’ll be glad you did.
Clark, Cramer & Frank – we sell homes, and we do it well!
Our Thoughts on the Real Estate Market - 1st Quarter, 2013
The trend that started last year with increased sales activity and decreasing levels of inventory continues in 2013. The overall Hilton Head Island market is experiencing a 25% increase in sales activity year over year.
What is selling in Sea Pines? Of the 33 homes sales closed in the first quarter of 2013, twenty six had a list price under $1,000,000. Twelve of those were listed under $500,000. Of the homes sold at prices over $1,000,000, the majority of those (all but one) were within a walk to the beach.
At the time of this writing, there are thirty seven homes in Sea Pines under contract to close. Eight of those are at list prices over $1,000,000, and two are listed over $2,000,000. Eighteen homes priced in the $500,000 - $1,000,000 range, and eleven homes priced under $500,000 are also under contract.
Villa sales under $800,000 are brisk as well. Twenty three villas closed in first quarter. Villas of all sizes (two, three and four bedroom units) in a variety of locations were sold. There are twenty five villa sales pending and they represent a variety of complexes, all listed at prices below $800,000.
As you travel our Sea Pines roads, you will no doubt notice a marked increase in construction activity – both new homes and remodeling, including two new “spec” homes. With lot prices and interest rates low, and what “feels” like a sustainable resurgence in the market, we expect to see more spec offerings, particularly with new, or like-new, homes being high on the list for many prospective buyers.
